Of 'Rock' music and its interesting variance

I think every language goes through an evolutionary process. Many terminologies we have got used to by now might not be the same our next generations will be using in their times. That said there are also many instances where a single word connotes a wide range of meanings at the same time across multiple geographies and that too even in the closest distance of three hundred kilometers. Sounds crazy? nah?

So, here goes an example. Have a glimpse of what hard 'Rock' music or for that matter 'রকবাজি' means in kolkata music-scene and that too perhaps at its best form as Rupam Islam rightly pointed out in the beginning - 'কড়া গান'.

And, how 'Rock' music sounds at some other nearby place.

No doubt, broadly both of them fall in the rock category. However, from skill and quality dimension its obvious what Kolkata rock scene is boasting about is no where close to Bangladeshi one. So, I often struggle and get confused when I see two nearby audiences appreciating the same genre of music in two different ways. True..they grew up in two different countries. But in the age of internet who really cares about borders. The sky is always open as they say. Still, for some reasons I am not aware of, the difference in perception remains outstanding. So, next time when you hear someone from Kolkata saying we do 'rock' music or 'রকবাজি', don't take it too literally.  

Kolkata contains rich heritage of indie or soft rock music with acoustic arrangements having deep, thoughtful lyrics and beautiful composition that commenced from the era of Mohin er Ghoraguli. Perhaps it worked as a strong influence for later bands and musicians. And, as a result, we got many beautiful, soft numbers from kolkata based bands which otherwise might not be possible. 

But, one might be always curious to know what on earth makes them believe that they are banging their heads with supreme rock music also known as 'রকবাজি'. It's hilarious.
